PR Story: The Northern Gateway Toll Road

Date: 1 May 2009

Peoplemax are hands on for Northern Gateway Toll Road, providing information and assistance at the manual payment kiosks for the new Northern Gateway Toll Road.

Despite the simplicity of phoning the 0800 number or paying online, for some, the option of a manual payment is still a preference. This put the manual payment kiosks under considerable pressure.

Prior to the Toll Road opening in January, Peoplemax® were contracted by Core Communcations, on behalf of the New Zealand Transport Agency, to provide Ambassadors to be stationed at the manual payment kiosks, to provide on site information and assistance for people looking to pay online, by calling the 0800 number or to help them use the manual payment kiosks.

The use of on site “ambassadors” was to prove to be a major PR success with almost daily reference in the media to the ambassadors provided by Peoplemax®.

Says Core Communications;

“The overall objective for this campaign was to provide ambassadors at the payment kiosks to educate the public on how to use the new toll road and to advise them on the various payment options. The number of people still choosing to use the manual payment machines meant that we had a huge educational job to do to promote the website and free phone methods of payment.

The Peoplemax ambassadors have excelled during this sometimes challenging project, remaining positive and professional even when times were tough. I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their commitment over the past four months”.
